From referral to scan.

One order, from the referral through a booked appointment.

The problem, with the sources named

Between the fax and the scanner, orders stall.

Two published studies describe the load. They are not a national average for every freestanding center. An intake audit measures yours.

  • 91% of diagnostic radiologists hit prior authorization at least once in a year.

Schwartz and colleagues applied one Medicare Advantage plan’s rules to 2017 fee-for-service Medicare claims. This is not “91% of imaging orders.”

  • 24.3% of examinations at one academic center were not kept as booked.

Aijaz and colleagues, Academic Radiology, 2024. The schedule was outpatient imaging in 2022 and January 2023. 80,771 examinations.

  • 22.3% of those examinations were cancellations. No-shows were 2.0%.

In that study, cancellation was most of the loss. A reminder alone does not cover the orders that never became a sound appointment.

In our experience, fax still carries most imaging orders. The audit replaces that impression with 30 days of your own queue.

Why centers look at Chalice

It sits beside the RIS you already have.

Chalice coordinates the journey. Images, reports, and billing stay in the systems you already run. Integration scope depends on the system, version, and available interfaces.

Referring offices stay in the story.

The same case can show received, cleared, and booked, so the ordering office is not left to call.

Staff and patients share one case.

Missing information, authorization, and the schedule stay on the order the patient is confirming.

Walk one order.

The staff and patient demo follows a single MRI from arrival through a confirmed time.

Follow one MRI order with staff and with the patient. An intake review can be discussed separately.
